Behind the scenes — The Christmas Gift.

Now, this side of my writing is meant to be the most personal of all. The things that really matter. And so, this is one Christmas story that is so strange in it’s content that perhaps you’ll understand why it is so very personal.

This December I travelled to Mexico. I went away in the hopes of finding something, perhaps somewhere to go during those more chill months of the year. Somewhere I could escape the weather and find something of value to add to my life, already so rich in gifts.

This quest was something of a recce. I would venture forth to somewhere that many people visit, and probably make some new friends and do some things that were exciting. Instead, and as I say I am being brutally honest here, I found something of greater value than I could ever have imagined.

I met one or two interesting people. I would not really describe them as friends. They were rather incidental acquaintances, snowbirds, the people who trek south for the winter. They surround themselves with toys and the trappings of where they have left, in the hopes that they will make their winter home a sunnier version of that which they left.
